      Description

Graphic novels have steadily risen in popularity in the last five years.
Thanks to this rise, the number of graphic novels being produced today
is ten times what it was a decade ago. And we're not just talking about
traditional superhero comics on the rise, but comic nonfiction, manga,
biographies, realistic fiction, fantasy and so much more being created
today in a comic style format. With this diversity of materials now
available, librarians have more questions than ever, including what's
manga? Where do I shelve these? Is the binding really poor quality?
What's a "literary" comic? Do comics rot the brains of young readers?
What's the difference between a comic and a graphic novel? And on and on
and on. This webinar is your chance to hear the answers to these
questions and ask your own questions form graphic novels guru Michele
Gorman, author of Getting Graphic! Using Graphic Novels to Promote
Literacy with Preteens and Teens, the newly released Getting Graphic!
Comics for Kids, and the "Getting Graphic" columnist for Library Media
Connection.
