ProMusica String Quartet to perform at festival

 

A string quartet from the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus will perform during A Spring Literary Arts Festival: Entertaining Dreams in McArthur, Ohio on Saturday, April 19.

The quartet is comprised of violinists Pavana Stetzik and Elaine Swinney, violist Kimberly Trout, and cellist Cora Kuyvenhoven. Classical music by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, and Baroque music by Bach and Handel will be performed. In addition, the quartet will play a few lighter pieces, including a Scott Joplin Rag.

ProMusica was founded in 1978 to present the best of traditional chamber orchestra repertoire and to promote the understanding and appreciation of contemporary American music. Since 1998, ProMusica has served as the resident orchestra of the historic Southern Theatre.

Under the direction of Co-Founder and Music Director Timothy Russell, the orchestra has won eight awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) for Adventurous Programming. Other awards include those from the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the Columbus Jewish Foundation. Timothy Russell has been nominated for two Grammy awards.

ProMusica also continues an active recording program with ten compact discs released to date. Educational programs have included award-winning symposia, pre-concert conversations, school concerts, and curriculum guides. Community programs include free admission open rehearsals for seniors. ProMusica is funded in part through the work of The Columbus Foundation, the Greater Columbus Arts Council, and the Ohio Arts Council. Media support is provided by WOSU-FM. Additional support is provided by The Drury Inn and Thrifty Car Rental.

            The ProMusica String Quartet will perform at 5 p.m. at the Vinton County Middle School on Saturday, April 19, 2008. 

A Spring Literary Arts Festival: Entertaining Dreams is sponsored by the Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library and the Friends of the Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library, Inc., in McArthur, Ohio. The festival opens on Friday, April 18, 2008 and the last event will commence at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2008.
