New literary sensation Donald Ray Pollock will be reading from his book
"Knockemstiff" and answering questions at the Chillicothe and Ross
County Public Library on Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m. The program will be
held in the old Central School, located behind the Main Library at 140
South Paint Street in Chillicothe. There is ample parking in the library
lot.

Don's new book of short stories, "Knockemstiff" was an Amazon Pick for
March. It has received excellent reviews in the New York Times, Los
Angeles Times, Entertainment Weekly, Publishers Weekly, USA Today, and
elsewhere. The interrelated stories are very dark (if you attend, be
forewarned) and the subject matter gritty and graphic. Knockemstiff is
a real place in Ross County; some places and even characters in the
stories have elements of the real, but they are fiction. He is a
wonderful writer, and we are proud to claim him as a Ross County native
and resident and longtime library user. He worked at the paper mill in
Chillicothe for 32 years, and is now enrolled in the MFA program at Ohio
State. He has a contract for a new book.

Don is an interesting, soft-spoken guy with a pleasant Southern Ohio
accent, but says he is not a public speaker. In addition to the
reading, however, he is more than happy to answer questions from the
audience and sign books. He has appeared at OU-C and at bookstores in
Columbus along with his national tour, but we are looking forward to the
chance to honor him at this library program. Don't miss your chance to
see this up and coming, nationally recognized new author. Call Jennifer
Thompson or Karen Conley, 740-702-4145 if you need any other details.
