August is here, and it's time once again for the OPLIN Connectivity
Survey. Each year, we ask all Ohio public library systems to give us
some basic information about their library buildings and their
Internet connections. This information is used to prepare the OPLIN
Annual Report, which is presented for information and discussion at
the annual Stakeholders Meeting, taking place this year on September
12 in conjunction with the OLC Expo
(http://www.olc.org/expo.asp#oplin).

The survey is pretty simple and easy to complete. Go to
http://oplin.org/survey and enter your FSCS number to begin. (If you
don't know your FSCS number, use the handy "Click here to find your
FSCS number" link.) Your answers from last year's survey will still be
visible, so you only need to fill in information that has changed
since then.

The deadline for completing the survey is Friday, August 22, but we
encourage you to do it early. Sometime in mid-August we will start
pestering libraries that have not completed the survey (you've been
warned).

TIP: ALA will be asking libraries to complete their survey of "Public
Library Funding and Technology Access" in early September. One of
their questions is similar to one of ours -- how many public access
computers do you have -- but they will also want to know how many
years old the computers are. As you are counting computers for OPLIN,
you might also tally their ages for ALA.
