Our circ staff checks the shelves daily for overdues also.
It is time-consuming, but we feel it's worth it. Even a few items found
is that many fewer patrons thinking we might be inefficient, and it
saves their time to notify us -- good PR. We also call patrons without
email on the 1st overdue. Then they can renew at the same time to
prevent late fees from accumulating.

Subject: [OPLINLIST] checking shelves for overdue books

Hi, the Circulation Department at Flesh Public Library would like to
know
how many libraries have circulation staff check their shelves (daily or
weekly) for overdue material that was returned but not checked in. We
currently have staff check daily but find that we only catch one or two
books.

Results will be compiled and posted.

Thanks,
Maria Vega
Flesh Public Library
