Society regarding the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign that was pushed 
out to Ohio libraries last October.  It includes an invitation to 
libraries to participate in the campaign this year.

2008 Breast Cancer Awareness Month Library Campaign

In October 2008, SWON (SouthWest Ohio and Neighboring) Libraries and the
American Cancer Society, Ohio Division, partnered together to offer
public, school, and academic libraries the opportunity to take part in
the 2008 Breast Cancer Awareness Month Library Campaign.

Libraries received Breast Cancer Awareness Month Toolkits containing
information and resources on breast cancer available through the
American Cancer Society. These resources included breast cancer books,
brochures, posters, and statistical information. In addition, depending
on the type of patron, the kit was tailored to the library's needs. The
goal of the campaign was to have libraries highlight Breast Cancer
Awareness Month through a display. Thirty-seven libraries across the
State of Ohio participated in the campaign of which 27 were publics; 4
were high schools; and 6 were academics.

The libraries were asked to complete evaluations once the campaign was
over and 19 evaluations were received all with favorable results.
Libraries expressed interest in future participation.

In 2009, SWON Libraries and ACS will again offer the Breast Cancer
Awareness Month Toolkit to libraries.  Additional resources will
supplement the toolkits which will be available in September for
distribution.
