a research study exploring perceptions in regard to controversial
fiction.

CALL FOR RESEARCH FOCUS GROUP PARTICIPANTS 

 

The Kent State University School of Library and Information Science is
seeking 15 people age 18 years or older to participate in a research
study exploring the public's motivations and perceptions in regard to
controversial works of fiction.  

 

CRITERIA

Potential participants will meet the following criteria:  

1.    Have not read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K.
Rowling due to personal reasons (which may or may not be based on their
religious convictions).

2.    Are willing to discuss these reasons with the researchers and
other research study participants in a focus group setting.

3.    Must be willing to attend two meetings in Columbus, Ohio.  

4.    Must be willing to read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by
J. K. Rowling, and to discuss their impressions of the book with the
researchers and other research study participants in a focus group
setting.

 

TIME COMMITMENT

We are asking for a six-week commitment between April 15 and June 15*,
which will include two meetings (one before and one after reading the
book).  

 

PARTICIPATION AND PRIVACY

Participants' identities will be kept confidential in any published
research.  Involvement in this study is voluntary, and participants may
choose to withdraw at any time.
