Description:

 During this past year, SERLS has been offering security courses to help
library staff to stay safe. In this class, Delaware City police officers
Adam Moore and Rod Glazer will cover three areas of self-defense:

§  De-escalation of critical incidents, basic tips/strategies to prevent or
avoid attack. 

§  Several techniques to physically defend oneself during an assault.
(blocks, strikes, kicks, etc...) These techniques are easy and can be
performed by an individual of any skill level. (i.e. your physical shape
doesn't matter) 

§  How to deal with a physically aggressive intruder that may enter the
library with the intent to do harm to multiple victims. 


About our speakers:

ADAM MOORE:Officer Adam Moore has been a member of the Delaware City Police
Department since September of 2002. He is currently assigned to the
Community Education Bureau as a School Resource Officer for the Delaware
City Schools. Officer Moore serves as a DARE instructor for Delaware City
and spends many hours interacting with students in the classroom. Some of
his previous assignments in Delaware include the detective division and
uniformed patrol.
Moore is in his thirteenth year as a police officer and has served with
police departments in Hiram, Ohio as well as Pleasant Hill, Ohio. He
graduated from the Sinclair College Basic Police Academy in Dayton, Ohio in
1996. Moore also holds his bachelor’s degree in criminology from The Ohio
State University as well as many law enforcement related certifications.
Officer Moore is a certified Rape Aggression Defense Instructor and
currently serves as a self-defense instructor for the physical education
department at Ohio Wesleyan University. Officer Moore has maintained an
interest in university related safety issues and in 2007 he was appointed to
Governor Ted Strickland’s Task Force for University Security and Safety. A
group tasked with reviewing the procedures of Ohio’s Universities in the
wake of the Virginia Tech tragedy.
Moore currently resides in the Delaware area with his wife and three
children.

ROD GLAZER:Officer Rod Glazer has been a member of the Delaware City Police
Department since January 1990. He is beginning his seventh year assigned to
the Delaware City Schools as the School Resource Officer/DARE Officer/ and
GREAT Officer. He also serves as the department's training officer for self
defense and firearms.
Prior to being appointed as a Police Officer with the Delaware Police
Department, he served in the United States Army Military Police Corps, as a
Corrections Officer with the Stark County Sheriff's Office in Canton, OH,
and with the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division where he was
assigned to the Vice President's Protective Detail.
He completed his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Central Ohio
Technical College in 1986.
Officer Glazer received the Ohio School Resource Officer Association Safe
Schools SRO of the Year Award for 2005 and the Delaware Police Department's
Officer of the Year for 2006. Officer Glazer holds several certifications
for law enforcement instruction and is a Certified Gang Specialist and
Certified Crime Prevention Specialist.

(75% discount rate) (Any outstanding SERLS CE Bucks will automatically be
applied to the cost of this workshop)

§  Friends of SERLS: $60.00 (25% discount)

§  All others: $80.00
