CHILDREN’S LIBRARIAN

Shaker Heights Public Library has a full-time opening for a Children’s Librarian. Under general supervision, the Children’s Librarian provides reference and programming services to children and their families and assists with the development and maintenance of the library’s children’s collection.

We are a busy, diverse, first-ring suburban library looking for an energetic, creative, flexible team player with a passionate commitment to customer service. Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school, and a demonstrated ability to work with children individually and in groups, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required.  Excellent reference and computer skills, effective oral and written communication skills, and knowledge of literature for children and teens are essential.  Work with diverse populations and experience in a public library are a plus.  The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in applying new technologies to improve services for customers, a positive attitude, and a sense of humor. 

This position works a variety of day, evening, and weekend hours.
