The Buckeye Children's and Teen Book Award Council is pleased to inform
you of the 2012 BCTBA winners.

 

Grades K - 2: We Are in a Book! (An Elephant and Piggie Book) by Mo
Willems (Hyperion Books, 2010)

Grades 3 - 5: Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick (Scholastic, Inc., 2011)

Grades 6 - 8: Son of Neptune (Heroes of Olympus, Book 2)  by Rick
Riordan (Hyperion Books, 2011)

Teen: Matched by Ally Condie (Dutton Juvenile, 2010)

 

Each of these books won the highest number of votes out of the five
nominees in its category, in an online voting process by young readers
all across the state of Ohio. Nominations for the 2012 Buckeye
Children's Book Award were held from January 1, 2012 to March 15, 2012.
To be eligible for nomination, a book must have been published in the
United States in the previous two years.  Voting was held between
October 1, 2012 and November 10, 2012.

 

The Buckeye Children's and Teen Book Award program is designed to
encourage children in Ohio to read literature critically, to promote
teacher and librarian involvement in children's literature programs, and
to commend authors of such literature. It was established in 1981
through a collaborative effort of the Ohio Council of the International
Reading Association, The Ohio Educational Library Media Association, The
Ohio Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts, The Ohio Library
Council, and The State Library of Ohio. It is one of the few statewide
readers' choice awards in which students nominate titles as well as vote
for the winners.

 

A copy of each of the winning books with the BCTBA seal will be added to
the BCTBA archives, housed at the Kent State University School of
Library and Information Sciences Reinberger Children's Center in Kent,
Ohio.
