Story times are great opportunities to teach parents and caregivers how to teach their children. To read, sure. But there are lots of developmental steps along the way to reading. Understanding what children can do at different stages can help you tailor your story time to the kids in the room. Telling the adults what skills they can help build helps them become partners, not just passive listeners. Here are a few items from Saroj's list of stages:

    • Smile or laugh in response to noise or action (4-6 months)
    • Look intently at bright pictures in books (4-6 months)
    • Pull up to a standing position (7-9 months)
    • Clap hands on command (10-12 months)
    • Sing songs with adults (19-23 months)
    • Whisper (19-23 months)

To receive Saroj's complete Stages and Story Times document and learn how to use its information effectively, join us for Criss Cross Applesauce at one of four locations, the week of November 12. Click here for more registration details.
