The State Library of Ohio is seeking a Library Assistant. 
Responsibilities: 
Detailed Position Description These duties are illustrative only. Incumbents may perform some or all of these duties or other job-related duties as assigned. Assists State Library patrons & other visitors (e.g. serves as receptionist; performs circulation duties; locates library materials; takes requests for materials; answers telephone questions; helps walk-in users locate materials; registers patrons for new library cards; answers routine inquiries & refers patrons in need of professional assistance to librarians; escalates patron issues to supervisor when necessary; performs routine facility opening & closing tasks; responds to requests from meeting room patrons; provides basic assistance to patrons using photocopiers, public computer terminals, &/or other library equipment, etc.). Checks in & checks out books & library materials such as books, talking book machines, audio/visual, documents, etc. for patrons, disposal sites &/or repair groups (e.g. uses computer to find patron record, uses bar code scanner to log transaction, edits or creates item records and/or temporary records in library catalog; stamps, labels & barcodes books &/or materials). Works on collection maintenance projects as assigned by supervisor (e.g. searches for missing items, shelf-reads, shelves & shifts books &/or materials including LCs, Deweys, Gov Docs, Periodicals, Bookdrop, reference cart, microforms, maps, documents, etc.). Performs other library related clerical tasks (e.g. performs basic serials check-ins; keeps records; pulls & files data; performs routine bibliographic searches; sends overdue notices to patrons; makes photocopies; scans; types correspondence; mails materials; sorts mail &/or materials, etc.). 
Qualifications: 
Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division & in alphabetizing & English grammar; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in typing. -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above. Knowledge of: attitudes & actions which perpetuate good working relationships & acceptable public image (e.g. business & public behavior that reflects positively on employing agency); library procedures*; addition, subtraction, multiplication & division; customer & personal service; clerical. Skill in: use of various types of office equipment such as computer &/or audio-visual equipment*; use of library software*; use of office suite software; service orientation; active listening; critical thinking. Ability to: deal with problems involving few variables in familiar context; sort items into categories according to established methods; arrange items into numerical or alphabetical order; check pairs of items that are similar or dissimilar; arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g. patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations); apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense; answer routine inquiries from the public; lift up to 75 lbs. Competency in: customer focus. (*) Developed after employment. This position is unclassified per ORC 124.11 (A)(7)(b).
