JOB TITLE:           WEB SPECIALIST                                                           DATE:  JANUARY 28, 2013

LOCATION:         INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

HOURS: Full-time (37.5 hours), including evening and weekend hours,
not job-share eligible

SALARY:               Grade 12, $21.12/hour

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


Responsibilities include developing and maintaining all Library web sites and web applications, including the public website, public catalog, blog software, and staff intranet; monitoring industry trends, technologies, and standards and applying these new web technologies to sites as appropriate; conceptualizing and integrating third party vendor databases, applications, and products into sites for a seamless user experience; managing WordPress and other Content Management Systems (CMS) and providing staff training on these systems as necessary; testing functionality of websites, including mobile, in all popular browsers for the best possible user experience; leading a team of Library staff involved in web design to ensure appropriate content and consistency and providing related training when necessary; maintaining knowledge of current trends in social media and participating on the Library's social media team; tracking usage and trends of the sites and using data gathered to enhance design and development; and regularly monitoring all Library sites for currency and accuracy of content.  Works evening and weekends as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


Demonstrated knowledge and experience with graphic design concepts and tools, including Adobe Photoshop and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS); experience developing web content using HTML, JavaScript, CSS, .NET, PHP, Flash, XHTML; proficiency in using popular Integrated Developer Environments (IDEs) such as Dreamweaver and Visual Studio; experience with web server and database server technology, including Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, Microsoft llS, MySql, and LAMP/WAMP stacks; experience using XML, PERL, and CGI; strong conceptual and creative skills; strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; and ability for independent thinking and decision-making.  Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited university required, completion of two years of relevant experience creating web pages in a professional environment required; demonstrated knowledge of hardware and software used in text and image digitization and knowledge of Innovative Interfaces ILS preferred.
