[OPLINLIST] Call to Action: EveryoneOn digital literacy campaign needs your help

On March 21st, Connect2Compete will launch EveryoneOn, a 3-year national public service campaign to promote the importance of digital literacy skills and increase awareness of and access to free computer and Internet training classes. The key message is to encourage limited or non-Internet users, to learn how to do one thing better online. Public libraries are central to the success of this effort.  EveryoneOn builds on the demonstrated commitment by libraries to providing free access to the Internet as well as to improving skills (e.g. using a mouse, applying for jobs online, or creating email accounts).

Connect2Compete asks all public libraries to update their Training Locator database. Information from the Institute of Museums and Library Services (IMLS) and the American Library Association (ALA) was used to create the basic database. Your help is needed to update and enhance it with additional information about services and resources each library location/branch currently offers to help people learn digital literacy skills or access the Internet.

The database will power an online Training Locator tool. The tool will help Ohioans locate libraries that provide digital literacy training or public access to the Internet. A 1-800 phone number will also be available with this information for those without internet access.

Instructions and a link for updating the Training Locator database are on the Connect2Compete website<http://www.connect2compete.org/content/everyoneon-library-materials>. Reviewing and updating your library's record should take about 5 minutes to complete per location, and your help is greatly appreciated.

The EveryoneOn campaign toolkit<http://everyoneon.adcouncil.org/> has resources to describe the importance of EveryoneOn and to promote digital literacy in local communities. Libraries can begin using these materials at any time if they are ready and interested. Additional resources will continue to become available in the coming months. The toolkit was created by the Ad Council and currently includes:

*         Background information

*         Downloadable posters and graphics

*         Tips on using the campaign materials and spreading the word

In the coming weeks, libraries will be invited to view a webinar that will discuss EveryoneOn, the toolkit materials and how they can be used to support these efforts.
