[OPLINLIST] Finding "The Cloud"

Why don’t people back up the files on their computers? Maybe because 
they read (very solid) advice that they should “Back Up Your Computer in 
Three Ways

but it sounds too complicated, so they join the good-luck crowd instead.

Here’s a way you can get started, for free: Sign up for a service that 
syncs some of your files to “the cloud,” and install their software. 
That will create a folder on your computer; put files into that folder, 
and those files will automatically upload to the cloud. If your computer 
should fall into lava, you’ll still be able to download those files.

Popular cloud sync services include Dropbox <https://www.dropbox.com>, 
Box.com <http://box.com>, Google Drive <https://drive.google.com>, and 
Microsoft’s OneDrive <https://onedrive.live.com/about/en-us/>. With 
their free accounts, you get (respectively) 2GB, 10GB, 15GB, and 7GB of 
space. You can earn more free space by doing things like referring 
others to sign up <https://db.tt/pEAvGkL>.

With a pretty small amount of space, you can still back up a lot of 
important files: health information or prescriptions, receipts or tax 
information, contact lists or pictures. You don’t want to lose those 
files or have them fall into the wrong hands, so set a very strong 
password

how to create local and remote backups. With this approach, your data

    Level-Up Lab: Introducing Cloud Services

What is “the cloud”? Really, it can include everything from webmail to 
Dropbox and beyond. There are cloud services that can help you do things 
like backup files, sync or share files, or work collaboratively online. 
You might find some of them to be really useful–if you found them.

In this Level-Up Lab, Nathan will introduce you to a range of cloud 
services, describing what they do and briefly showing how they work. 
With lots of room for questions, we’ll discuss ways you can put the 
cloud to work for you.
