Youth Services Librarian

St. Paris Public Library

 

St. Paris Public Library is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic person to
fill our full time Youth Services Librarian position.  We strive to offer
high caliber youth services programming to our community for ages 0 through
12th grade.  Our librarian would need to be able to offer the following:

 

Responsibility: Under general supervision of the Director, the Youth
Services Librarian coordinates the delivery of youth services programs;
coordinates collection development and selects materials for purchase;
ensures effective communication with other departments; assists patrons in
identifying and locating appropriate materials using electronic, print and
other resources; performs various administrative duties without direct
supervision.

 

Education, Training, and Experience

.         Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree (or higher)
preferred

.         Experience working with children required

.         Computer Experience required

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

.         Ability to work flexible hours.

.         Ability to pass a background check

.         Ability to maintain composure in stressful work situations.

.         Physical strength and dexterity are required to handle library
materials and boxes up to 30 pounds in weight, and to transport loaded book
carts.  Physical ability to put items in order on high and low shelves is
also required.

.         Demonstrate positive support/service attitude is required to meet,
communicate with and serve the public and co-workers effectively.

.         Ability to work within budget guidelines.

.         Considerable knowledge of library procedures and operations is
desired.

.         Ability to work independently in a wide variety of situations is
required.

.         Ability to understand and interpret library policies and
procedures is required.

.         Superior organizational skills and precise attention to detail is
required.

 

 

Duties:

.         Plans and presents story times, programs, and other outreach.

.         Provides reference and reader's advisory services to youth,
parents, caregivers, and educators.

.         Coordinates school visits

.         Coordinates reading programs during summer and/or winter.

.         Selects and evaluates library materials for children; reviews
books.

.         Assists in public service areas in the same capacity as a Library
Assistant.

.         Maintains required statistics and prepare necessary reports.

.         Maintains communications with schools.

.         Coordinates displays and library promotions for Youth Services.

.         Organizes requested teacher's collections.

.         Maintains orderliness of Youth Services area (pick up stray items,
straightening shelves, furniture, puppets, and keep books on display).

.         Performs other duties as required.

 

Salary

This is a salaried position that starts at $29,000 per year dependent upon
qualifications and experience. This position is eligible for the Library's
benefits package.
