Big Ideas for the internet age are what drives author, science and technology writer and frequent NPR guest Clive Thompson. Hear him discuss the ways the human brain has benefited from technology when he speaks at the Hudson Library & Historical Society on Monday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m.

Thompson's 2013 book, Smarter Than You Think: How Technology Is Changing Our Minds for the Better, proclaims that the current age of technological revolution has produced more awareness, efficiency and innovation than ever before. Where some find computers to be isolating, Thompson argues they have opened up opportunities for worldwide collaboration that would have been incomprehensible just a generation ago.

Publisher's Weekly calls the book an "optimistic, fast-paced tale about the advent of technology and its influence on humans." Walter Isaacson wrote in the New York Times that it is "[A] judicious and insightful book on human and machine intelligence."

Thompson is a contributing writer for the New York Times Magazine and Wired columnist. He has appeared on CBS "This Morning," NPR's On "Point," NPR's "On the Media," "Radio New Zealand," and MSNBC's "The Cycle." He studied poetry and political science at the University of Toronto and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY, with his family.

This special event is made possible by the Flood Family Lecture Series fund at the Hudson Library. Registration is required.
