The Belmont County District Library (Ohio) seeks a Library Director,
replacing the incumbent, who will retire after 15 years in that position.
The previous director retired after 24 years in this position.  Located in
historic Belmont County on the Ohio River, adjacent to Wheeling, WV, and
midway between Columbus and Pittsburgh, the Belmont County District Library
serves a patron base of 38,000 city and county residents with a central
library, and five branch libraries.  The library has a staff of 26 FTEs, a
strong collection of print, AV and electronic materials, a shared regional
Dynix/Symphony integrated catalog, in the SEO Consortium, budget of $1.5
million, and a levy providing over $500,000.00 of that budget.  

 

EXPECTATIONS - The director is the CEO of the library system, responsible
for day-by-day administration and (along with the Board of Trustees, to whom
(s)he reports) budgeting and long-range planning.   We seek a director who
has a Master's Degree in Library Science and appropriate experience to
handle this position. The director must possesses strong budget and
administrative skills, and will enthusiastically represent the library in
our community; motivate and inspire our entire staff; demonstrate clear
understanding of the skills and philosophy of librarianship (including
current and emerging technologies); strongly advocate for the library with
government and funding officials; support and strengthen the considerable
resource-sharing capabilities of the region and state; recognize the
importance of library services to children and to the elderly; and clearly
promote her/his vision of effective library service.  In addition, the new
director must interact with the residents of Belmont County to run the next
levy in May 2018. Please send cover letter, application and three
