Help us Make a Makerspace Event

There’s no doubt about it: We all move forward faster when we collaborate.
One way SWON helps is by offering a variety of tech-to-lend

and instruction and programming options for our members. However, we know
that there are those out there in our community with great ideas just dying
to be shared.

When it comes to technology, some of us may be bleeding-edge early
adopters. Others may be curious, but unsure of what to do with so much new
technology. Others may not be sure they have any need for such technology
at all. Here is where we can come together and help each other.

Many of you have great technology, makerspaces, and maker programs in your
libraries. Many more of you would love ideas for those cutting machines

will be hosting an all-day event inspired by the team leader of the Public
Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County's MakerSpace

Ella Mulford-Chinn who told us that many of you are looking nor just for
the equipment, but for specific program ideas for your makerspaces.

If you have a program you would like to present at the event on December 6th
at Xavier University’s Conaton Learning Commons

particularly if that program involves a particular piece of makerspace
equipment, we’d love for you to share your ideas with your library
community. We are looking for programs for all ages and on all types of
maker equipment.

with your name, institution, a brief description of the program and any
equipment it uses or a description of your proposal for presentation. We
will be looking for diversity in ideas and targeted ages, but all programs
should generally fall more on the beginner skill level. Presentations will
be 30 minutes long and should cover programs that you have already
implemented.

If you don’t have any programs, but wish you did, then save the date for
December 6th and we will be sharing more information on this workshop soon!

Reminder: The First-Ever Construction SIG meets 8/9

Is your library thinking about renovating your space, making a new
addition, or building an all new branch? Or is construction already well
under way? Construction can be an exciting, but frightening venture, and
there's no reason to do it alone. If your library is, will be, or has done
construction, you could be a valuable member of SWON's new Construction
special interest group. Come to our August meeting to hear about what
others have learned during the renovation and construction process, swap
ideas, and give advice of your own. Everyone is welcome, and there's no
charge to participate in our meetings..
