An Evening with New York Times Bestselling Author Peggy Orenstein

On Tuesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. the Hudson Library & Historical Society will welcome New York Times bestselling author Peggy Orenstein to discuss her newest book Girls & Sex: Navigating the Complicated New Landscape. In the book, Orenstein, author of the bestselling book Cinderella Ate My Daughter, focuses on females from high school to college. Through in-depth interviews with over seventy young women, psychologists and other experts, Orenstein examines the "hidden truths, hard lessons, and important possibilities of girls' sex lives in the modern world." Publisher's Weekly calls the book "Eye-opening.... Orenstein draws powerful, humane portraits of her interview subjects, self-reliant young women who find themselves trapped by sexist stereotypes about women's bodies and women's pleasure. [A] smart, earnest, and timely assessment." Orenstein was recently featured in the Washington Post and on NPR's Fresh Air. This event is made possible by the Hudson Library & Historical Society's Libby Walker Women's Studies Lecture Series.

Peggy Orenstein is the New York Times bestselling author of Cinderella Ate My Daughter, Waiting for Daisy, Flux: Women on Sex, Work, Love, Kids, and a Life in a Half-Changed World and Schoolgirls: Young Women, Self Esteem, and the Confidence Gap. A contributing writer for the New York Times Magazine, her work has also appeared in USA Today, Parenting, Salon, the New Yorker and she has contributed commentary to NPR's All Things Considered. She lives in Northern California with her husband and daughter.

Copies of Girls & Sex will be available for purchase and signing courtesy of the Learned Owl Book Shop. Register for this free program online at hudsonlibrary.org or call (330) 653-6658 x1010.
