Ohio Citizens for Deaf Cultures (OCDC) is pleased to have the support of the Ohio School for the Deaf, State Library of Ohio, and Gallaudet University Regional Center - Midwest for cosponsoring this unique deaf cultural program and library workshop which will benefit 6th graders and up, their family members, school faculty and staff, librarians, allied professionals and workers, deaf community leaders, library friends and college students. This is also suitable for those with interests in library and deaf careers.

Participants will also have opportunities to learn about deaf cultures of Ohio and the 1979 resolution from the White House Conference on Libraries and Information Services (WHCLIS), which we call today Deaf Culture Digital Library (DCDL) on both state and national levels.

They will also learn about the new American Library Association campaign called "Libraries Transform" launched in October 2015, and the motto of the United Nations for People with Disabilities in 1994 and the slogan of the National Association of the Deaf in 2012 called "Nothing About Us, Without Us."

The library program agenda is the creation of Alice L. Hagemeyer, who has been advocating for DCDL and DHM for over 40 years, and of Alec McFarlane, with his expertise of organizational development and the success of DCDL law in MD in 2014 and other important library accomplishments in the last nine years.

Schedule:
9:00 am - 11:00 am: DEAF CULTURES PROGRAM - Open to all - students in grade 6 and up, staff, and community members.
11:15 am - Noon: FUTURE LIBRARY WORKSHOP - Open to librarians, library friends and advocates with interests in both deaf and library issues of Ohio.

This event will be presented in American Sign Language (ASL).  Voice interpreting will be provided. If you need other accommodations, please let us know.
