Library Director for Wilmington Public Library (OH)
The Board of Trustees seeks a leader to build on the solid successes of their retiring Director. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and vision to inspire new service concepts with the staff and the public; experience in developing the annual budget in cooperation with staff and Board; experience in upholding policies and priorities; and the ability to create and implement the shared strategic plan of Board, staff and community. We are looking for a candidate willing to become a part of the community and partner with local government, area agencies and schools.
Wilmington offers smaller community comforts, an opportunity for rural living and is a short drive to the larger city amenities of Columbus, Dayton or Cincinnati.
Responsibilities and requirements:  This position oversees a library system with a main library and one one branch, under the direction of the Wilmington Public Library Board of Trustees.
The Library Director recommends policy and provides day-to day oversight of work towards achieving the goals within the Board approved long range plan.  The Director plans and oversees an active continuing community relations program, especially the development of strong relationships with community leaders and organizations within the county; represents the library within the community; attends library conferences and regional and statewide professional meetings; administers special projects on behalf of Board; hires, trains, evaluates and develops the staff of the library; administers personnel policies; and is responsible for the Library’s strategic planning process for the expansion and enhancement of services to all service area residents.
Qualifications

  *   MLIS from an ALA accredited program
  *   A broad knowledge of the current principles and practices of managing a public library
  *   Minimum of 5 years public library experience in increasingly responsible positions, with 3 years at the management level
Essential Abilities

  *   Excellent administrative, financial planning, communication and personnel management skills
  *   Ability to speak to diverse communities about their interests and service needs
  *   Ability to handle and resolve conflicts involving patrons, staff, and community leaders
  *   Ability to participate in meetings and conferences outside of normal working hours
  *   Initiative and vision in developing library services
  *   Ability to build relationships with the Library Board, staff and community leaders
  *   Experience with governing Boards, strategic planning, levy campaigns and library technology

Compensation: The starting range is $68-72,000, depending upon qualifications, with a competitive benefits package.
