Author Forrest Pritchard will visit Tiffin, Ohio, on Thursday, March 30th as
the feature event of the 2017 Community Read. The Community Read encourages
county residents to learn, share, and engage through reading and discussion
of a single, outstanding book. Mr. Pritchard's book, Gaining Ground: A Story
of Farmers' Markets, Local Food, and Saving the Family Farm, is this year's
selection. 

 

After graduating from college, Pritchard went home to take over his
grandparents' Shenandoah Valley farm, which had been in the family for seven
generations. With no farming experience, he was disappointed with the
proceeds of the first harvest -- $18.16. Determined to make the land
profitable once more, Pritchard converted operations to organic and
sustainable methods in an attempt to lower his costs and began selling
free-range eggs and meat out of his truck at farmers' markets. This
inspiring book recounts his journey from greenhorn to successful farmer-and
all his adventures in between. 

 

Forrest Pritchard will speak at 7:00 pm on Thursday, March30th, at Sentinel
Career and Technology Center in Tiffin. The event is free and open to the
public, and no registration is required. The Community Read and Mr.
Pritchard's visit are made possible by a grant from the Tiffin Charitable
Foundation and generous local donors.

 

Prior to the author's visit, book discussions and events will be held
throughout the month of March. Panel discussions will address the topics of
Agriculture in Seneca County, Ag Innovations, and Local Producers. For more
