Kent Free Library is seeking a creative, customer-focused manager to lead
the Adult Services Department and its staff. The successful candidate will
have demonstrated public library experience serving adults; experience in
planning, organizing, and implementing a wide variety of programs,
services, and other events for library users; a genuine desire to help
library users at the information desk and in the computer lab; and
experience selecting and managing library materials and collections. The
library has 37 employees and over 32,000 cardholders.  Nearly 600,000 items
circulate annually and the library operates with a $2.3M budget, which
includes a continuing local property tax levy.



Responsibilities include:



   - Responsible for day-to-day customer service at two public services
   desks;
   - Act as Person-In-Charge in absence of library director;
   - Enforce library policies for patron behavior and safety and security;
   - Solve problems and resolve issues in a timely manner;
   - Lead and supervise department staff including hiring, scheduling,
   training, coaching, evaluating, mentoring, and delegating responsibilities;
   - Establish services for adult library users;
   - Administer Adult Services Department budget for programs, materials
   and supplies;
   - Coordinate collection development for print, digital and audiovisual
   materials;
   - Direct the merchandising of materials and publicity for department
   events;
   - Plan and implement innovative programming for adults including the
   annual summer reading program;
   - Supervise the public computer lab and provide technology assistance to
   users;
   - Evaluate services for continued improvement to meet community needs;
   - Establish priorities for department activities;
   - Participate with other department managers and the library director in
   coordination of library wide projects and special events as part of
   management team;
   - Prepare monthly statistical reports;
   - Contribute to policy and procedure development for the adult services
   and library;
   - Participate in strategic planning for adult services and library;
   - Represent the library in the community and develop relationships and
   with community partners;
   - Demonstrate a positive attitude and support the library’s goals and
   objectives.



This position works closely with the library director and members of the
management team to provide innovative approaches to library service. This
position reports directly to the library director and supervises a team of
five librarians.



*Qualifications*: A master’s degree in library science from an ALA
accredited institution and three to five years of professional experience
in a public library are required. Collection development experience
preferred. Management or supervisory experience in a public library
preferred.
