[OPLINLIST] Purchasing Usborne Books

We have been allowed to purchase Usborne books through an individual consultant for several years. Any objections to doing so were directed more at cataloging/processing issues than ethical ones. We love being able to see the materials before buying them!

As long as your consultant is not a library employee or relative of one why would it be any different than hiring a painter to paint library walls?

Hello,
My Branch Managers and Children's team want to purchase books from Usborne.
As most of you know, these books are sold through "consultants". The catalog is filled with catching, engaging and compelling titles that I personally purchase for my grandchildren. I believe the quality and lists have improved over the decades. Usborne also has a distribution center in the U.S.

The question is the logistics. I am organizing a display with a local "consultant" and we will select titles and pay with VISA directly to Usborne - at least that's the plan. Have any of you purchased these books?
Do you go through an "Useborne seller"? Is it okay to purchase books through an individual? (We would have to set her up as a "vendor" with W-9 and all the other things our Fiscal Officer would need. But my FO is wondering if it is an ethical issue.)

We want to add some of these titles to our collections and I am frustrated as to how to go about it.

Thank you in advance for your insight, advice, etc.
Susan

Cross-posted. Please excuse duplication.

Good morning,

The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) has counted the votes received from all member states for general themes for the 2021 summer program. The CSLP is pleased to announce the general theme for 2021 will be ANIMALS, featuring artwork by Salina Yoon<http://www.salinayoon.com/HOME.html>.

Thank you to the 259 Ohio librarians who took part in the vote! I'm pleased to share that ANIMALS was the top vote-getter for Ohio, with 45% of respondents. The Ohio vote was wide-ranging, and several nominated themes were selected by 25%+ of respondents, but ANIMALS received a solid plurality of votes.

This third round is to select the general theme for the CSLP 2022 program year. Any Ohio public librarian/library staff member can vote. Our colleagues in other states will be voting as well. All the remaining nominated themes are on this ballot.

If interested, please vote by end of the day Tuesday, March 6 at this link:
www.surveymonkey.com/r/cslp_theme_22<http://www.surveymonkey.com/r/cslp_theme_22>
You may vote for up to 3 of the nominated themes.

I'll also consider the top vote-getters from the Ohio 2021 ballot when submitting the overall Ohio vote for 2022, but again, the vote was pretty close among several nominated themes. If you feel strongly about a theme (or 2 or 3), vote again and give those themes a boost.

Here are the choices:
Art/Visual Arts/Theater/Creativity/Imagination/DIY/Maker
Ecology/Environment/Nature/Outdoors/Jungle/Environmental Awareness and Conservation Change the World/Social Justice/Unity/Kindness/Inclusion/Change/Diversity/Equity/Make a Difference/Embrace Different Culture History - Middle Ages/Renaissance/Ancient Egypt/etc.
Food/Cooking and Culture
Community/Family/Home
Transportation
Around the World/Travel/National Parks/ Road Trips Mystery/Detective/Thriller/Spy Plants/Farms/Gardening/Agriculture
Explore/Outdoor Exploration-camping, hiking, etc./Adventure

The 2022 artist will be selected later, as will the specific slogan/catchphrase for the 2021 and 2022 programs.

Thank you,
Janet
