Nominate a Rising Star
NEO-RLS is now accepting nominations for the 2019 Rising Star Award. The award is presented to a library employee with no more than five years’ experience in libraries who has already had an impact on Northeast Ohio libraries. Nominations should include the following:
1. Nominee’s name
2. Job Title
3. Library Affiliation
4. 500 words or less detailing the impact the nominee has made in the library or community. Nominations should include specific examples with quantitative data when possible (e.g. names of programs and/or services initiated and extent of impact such as attendance or number of persons served).
5. Send nominations to Betsy Lantz<mailto:betsy.lantz at neo-rls.org>.
6. Deadline for nominations is end of day on Friday, July 19, 2019.
Selection of the recipient will be made by the State Librarian of Ohio with the award presented at the September 17, 2019 Membership Meeting and Appreciation Breakfast.
Developing a Maker Mindset
Is your makerspace garnering the interest you first thought it would? Are you struggling to create programming that stems beyond crafting? Let me guide you through techniques to empower your patrons by encouraging them to develop a Maker Mindset: a combination of processes that include the Maker Empowerment Theory and the Stanford Design process to retrain our thought processes to recognize that learning begins at failure (not ends there), that we live in a designed world, and that we are able to change it through making.

Learning Objectives:

  * Introduce how to develop a Maker Mindset for any librarian or patron, regardless of tech experience.
  * Increase confidence through hands-on activities and program development with a variety of different technologies.
  * Explore application of the Maker Mindset across a variety of environments: storytime, actual makerspaces, coding sessions, book club and more.
Presenter: Amy Zell , Teen and Patron Technologies Assistant at Hubbard Public Library,
is a self-proclaimed Maker after learning that she, too, has the wherewithal and resources to change the world through making.
