This notice is being cross-posted to Library Youth Services, SmLibs, and OPLINlist. Thank you.

Summer means relaxing, chilling, and vacationing - for some, but not for public library staff. As you get ready for this very busy time of year, find time to take care of yourself, and be mindful of that beloved tradition, the state Summer Library Program evaluation survey.

The State Library asks all Ohio public libraries to report on their summer library program/summer reading program (SLP/SRP) at program's end. Your participation in the 2019 SLP/SRP Evaluation will help the State Library, Regional Library Systems, suppliers of statewide incentives, and the Collaborative Summer Library Program to provide the most useful resources and support to Ohio's libraries.

Your participation also allows us to tell stakeholders and decision-makers how summer programs and activities at public libraries positively impact children, teens, families, adults, and communities.

The survey will be open from early June through mid-September. A link will be posted to OPLINlist, the Library Youth Services list, and the Small Libraries list, and will appear on the Ohio SLP page of the State Library website (library.ohio.gov/ohio-summer-library-program<https://library.ohio.gov/ohio-summer-library-program>). Please help achieve 100% participation for 2019.

Here is a summary of the questions on the survey. Review these questions, and track your SLP/SRP activities accordingly if possible. The survey can take as little as ~5 minutes if you have your numbers ready at hand, longer if you have narrative feedback to share. In 2018, the average time spent on the survey was 12 minutes.

2019 Ohio SLP/SRP Evaluation Preview:

*       Library contact information
* Did your library offer a summer reading/library program in 2019 for children? Teens? Adults?
*       How many children/teens/adults participated?
* How do you define participation (e.g. as anyone who registers, or as anyone who does at least one activity, or as anyone who completes the program, etc.)?
* What was the total attendance at your children's, teen, adult, and all-ages library programs held during SLP/SRP?

******** Optional: registration/completion numbers, completion rate, outcomes, and/or any analysis of your results that you wish to share.

* If you distributed the Ohio State Fair coupon, Armstrong Museum coupon, and/or Ohio Renaissance Festival coupon, how many of each did you distribute?
* Did your library participate in the Summer Food Service Program?
* Please rate various statewide/CSLP services and products, including the CSLP manual, workshops, statewide incentives, etc.
*       Additional feedback, comments, suggestions

We will also again collect anecdotes and photos from libraries, to share statewide to demonstrate the positive impact of public library summer programming. Photos and stories may be used in the annual Ohio SRP Evaluation Report, and in presentations, print, and/or online publications that communicate the importance of libraries for summer enrichment and literacy support. I encourage you to share your photos and stories with the State Library, so we can show off your summer activities and their benefits.

Hope you have a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,

Janet
