Public Service Assistant (Floater)

You are adaptable, able to self-monitor performance, provide excellent
customer service, and communicate well at all times with patrons, peers,
supervisors, and stakeholders.  You help patrons of every age and
background use the library. You are a natural host and are knowledgeable of
overall library operations:

   - You share your passion for the product by talking about and offering
   meaningful recommendations of the latest books, movies and music.
   - You help patrons download apps or use computers.  You register patrons
   for library cards, help with fees, place items on hold, track down books,
   help patrons sign up for programs, orchestrate the opening and closing of
   the library, etc.
   - When not assisting a patron, you handle a multitude of clerical and
   inventory tasks to keep the library running efficiently and effectively,
   including shelving materials.
   - You do the right thing. Every decision you make and action you take is
   an opportunity to demonstrate our collective integrity.
   - You serve as a safety monitor, maintain a safe space for all, and step
   in when needed.
   - You think quickly on your feet.  You help your team members.
   - You adapt well to change, are eager to learn new things and share them
   with others.
   - You love meeting and talking with people.  You are not shy.
   - You advocate for the library’s vision, mission and core values.

Schedule: A “floater” works at every service desk (Checkout, Children’s,
and Information) at the BG library, and may occasionally work at Walbridge.
The normal schedule for this position means you will work:

   - One afternoon per week Mondays through Thursdays 1pm to 5pm
   - One evening per week Mondays through Thursdays 4:30pm to 8:30pm
   - Saturdays 9am to 5pm (with a 30-minute lunch)
   - Sundays 1pm to 5pm

The life experience we are looking for:

   - Two years of college completed
   - Positive customer service experience is essential
   - Solid knowledge of computer and Internet operations, including apps
   - Ability to maintain high level of accuracy in tasks and
   confidentiality of transactions
   - Avid reader that loves to talk about books, movies, or music
