Linda, Robyn, Brian
I am sure you all saw this. I know this is Brian’s first summer reading with TCPL. Only one person submits this report on behalf of the whole system. Linda is the one who completes this report for the system.

Linda - based on the info that Janet has shared, please send something out to everyone to let them know what you will be needing. I don’t know if there is anything additional we may want for our own internal stakeholder report that megan puts together or if Brian wants anything additional for our monthly stats.

Thank you,

This notice is being cross-posted to Library Youth Services, SmLibs, OHLib, and OPLINlist. Thank you.

Ohio libraries will be starting their summer library programs (SLP) very soon. After the unique experience of 2020, it’s still uncertain what to expect this year, except that libraries will step up and offer fun, enriching programs and activities for your communities, and that these opportunities will make a positive difference for Ohioans during this transitional time.

The State Library asks all Ohio public libraries to report on their SLP at program’s end. Your participation in the 2021 Ohio Summer Library Program Evaluation will help the State Library, Regional Library Systems, suppliers of statewide incentives, and the Collaborative Summer Library Program to provide the most useful resources and support to Ohio’s libraries.

Your participation also allows us to tell stakeholders and decision-makers how summer programs and activities at public libraries positively impact children, teens, families, adults, and communities.

The survey will be open from early June through mid-September. A link will be posted to OPLINlist, the Library Youth Services list, the State Library’s OHLib list, and the Small Libraries list. The link will also be added to the Ohio SLP page of the State Library website (library.ohio.gov/ohio-summer-library-program<https://library.ohio.gov/ohio-summer-library-program>). Please help us achieve 100% participation for 2021.

Here is a summary of the questions on the survey. Review these questions, and track your SLP activities accordingly if possible. The survey can take as little as ~5 minutes if you have your numbers ready at hand, longer if you have narrative feedback to share. In 2020, the average time spent on the survey was just under 15 minutes.

2021 Ohio Summer Library Program Evaluation Preview:

  *   Library contact information
  * Did your library offer a summer library program in 2021 for children? Teens? Adults?
  *   How many children/teens/adults participated?
  * How do you define participation (e.g. as anyone who registers, or as anyone who does at least one activity, or as anyone who completes the program, etc.)?
  * Optional: registration/completion numbers, completion rate, outcomes, and/or any analysis of your participation results that you wish to share.
  * Did you use a summer reading tracking/management tool? If so, which one?
  * What was the total attendance at your children’s, teen, adult, and all-ages library programs held during SLP? Online live, online recorded, and in-person are counted together for this survey.
  * What program format(s) did you offer (e.g. online live, online recorded, outdoor, indoor, etc.)?
  * Optional: program observations, outcomes and/or any analysis of your programming results that you wish to share.
  * Did your library participate in the Summer Food Service Program?
  * If you distributed the Ohio State Parks certificate, Armstrong Museum coupon, and/or Ohio Renaissance Festival coupon, how many of each did you distribute?
  * Please rate various statewide/CSLP services and products, including the CSLP manual, workshops, statewide incentives, etc.
  *   Additional feedback, comments, suggestions.

We will also again collect anecdotes and photos from libraries, to share statewide to demonstrate the positive impact of public library summer programming. Photos and stories may be used in the annual Ohio SLP Evaluation Report, and in presentations, print, and/or online publications that communicate the importance of libraries for summer enrichment and literacy support. I encourage you to share your photos and stories with the State Library, so we can show off your summer activities and their benefits.

I hope you have a good summer!

Sincerely,
Janet
