The materials contained in these special libraries are focused on the work of the agencies they serve and often serve as an historic record of the agency’s work. June 2011 State Librarian's Report Beverly Cain State Librarian Feature Articles Bureau of Worker’s Compensation’s Library: Your Source for Free Occupational Safety and Health Information Do you need information on occupational safety and health, workers’ compensation and rehabilitation? If you do, chances are you will find it at the Bureau of Worker’s Compensation’s (BWC) Division of Safety & Hygiene library. The library has more than: 6,000 books, 200 magazines and newsletters, and 600 safety and health videos. More... Office of the Ohio Public Defender Legal Resource Center Ohio Revised Code §120.04 requires the State Public Defender to maintain a library in the central office of adequate size, considering the needs of the office and the accessibility of other libraries. The Legal Resource Center is the library of the Office of the Ohio Public Defender, and it serves the staff of the central office; branch and regional offices; county public defender offices; appointed counsel; the private bar; Ohio’s prisoners; and all Ohioans. Ohio Department of Health Libraries Two libraries make up the Ohio Department of Health Library at two different locations within the department. Diversified Collection at Ohio Department of Transportation Library For those of you who have never visited an Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) library, you would probably be surprised at the diversified collection of books, research reports, manuals, journals, industry specifications, newsletters, newspapers, DVDs, and CD-ROMs that comprise this specialized collection of transportation materials. The materials serve as vital research tools for transportation planning, design, engineering, construction, operations and maintenance. More... Ohio Legislative Service Commission Library The Ohio Legislative Service Commission, the research and bill drafting agency for the Ohio General Assembly, organized its library in 1953. It consisted of six or seven shelves of books in an area known as the "crows’ nest" that had been created above the second floor of the northeast side of the State House.[1] Currently, the library is located on the ninth floor of the Riffe Center and has windows. The agency hired a professional librarian in 1969. More... Ohioana Library Some of the most celebrated authors, musicians, and other artists call or have called Ohio home, both by chance and by choice. The Ohioana Library recognizes Ohioans as those born in Ohio and those who have lived in the state for five or more years. More... State Archives at the Ohio Historical Society The Ohio Historical Society collects, preserves and makes available the evidence of the past that is found in documents, photographs and artifacts. While the Ohio Historical Society is a non-profit organization and not a state agency, the Historical Society provides history-related services for the state, as mandated in the Ohio Revised Code. This includes maintaining the state’s historical records in the State Archives. These records document more than 200 years of activities and operations of state and local governments. More... Supreme Court of Ohio Law Library The Supreme Court of Ohio Law Library is located on the 11th through the 15th floors of the Ohio Judicial Center in Columbus, Ohio. Founded over 150 years ago, it is one of the largest state supreme court law libraries in the country. Established primarily for the use of the Justices and the staff of the Supreme Court, the Law Library also serves federal, state, and local government agencies, members of the legal profession, and the general public.
