    <div class="moz-cite-prefix">To be honest, this is why I am quick to
      remind parents that the library, unlike the school, does not act
      "in loco parentis" and that we cannot claim responsibility for
      things that children do in the library that are not illegal or
      against general library policy. (I will admit I state it in a
      slightly less confrontational, more affirmative manner..)  <br>
      <br>
      That said, if a parent comes to me and says that they don't want
      the child to use the internet on our computers, I will place a
      block on their account, but if they said they wanted me to block
      that child on any device I would say that is physically impossible
      (which the way we are setup, it pretty much is).  I might also
      remind the parent that even if I could keep their kid off the
      internet here, that they could simply walk up to McDonald's and
      access the internet there.<br>

                                    Holmes County District Public
                                    Library we do not require a library
                                    card for wireless use, but we do
                                    require users to accept usage terms.
                                    We use Sputnik to do this via a
                                    captive portal. This absolves us of
                                    liability for anything that the user
                                    might encounter while using our
                                    wireless services on their own
                                    device. Because this fulfills the
                                    purpose of freeing our library of
                                    liability, we chose not to require
                                    patrons to enter their library card
                                    for authentication, as it seemed
                                    that it would be a hassle for
                                    patrons to use the wireless, and an
                                    even bigger hassle for IT staff to
                                    set up and maintain, with no real
                                    gains for anyone.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

                                      for not requiring authentication

                                      computers could come into the
                                      library with a mobile device, be
                                      it a laptop, smart phone or
                                      tablet, and access the internet
                                      without parental/guardian
                                      permission. However, a minor whose
                                      parents or guardians allow them
                                      access to such a device, but not
                                      the internet access the device was
