</o:shapelayout></xml><![endif]--></head><body lang=EN-US link=blue vlink=purple><div class=WordSection1><p class=MsoNormal>On Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 11:00 am, an Ohio Historic Marker commemorating Andrew Carnegie / Carnegie Library of Steubenville will be dedicated at the Main Library of the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County in Steubenville, Ohio.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>In 1852, a young Andrew Carnegie was sent to Steubenville to the telegraph office when a flood destroyed the wires between Steubenville and Wheeling (West Virginia) and he was asked to staff the office. He remembered the City of June 30, 1899 when he provided $ 62,000 to build a new library. The new Carnegie Library opened March 12, 1902 as one of the first Carnegie buildings in Ohio.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>The new Ohio Historical Marker commemorates the Carnegie Library of Steubenville on one side, and Andrew Carnegie the Philanthropist, on the other side.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>A reception and Open House will follow the dedication.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Alan Hall, Library Director<o:p></o:p></p></div></body></html>
