<html><head><style type='text/css'>p { margin: 0; }</style></head><body><div style='font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000'><div style="color:#000;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;text-decoration:none;font-family:Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:12pt;"><div class="WordSection1"><p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif""><a href="http://library.ohio.gov/snapshotday" target="_blank">Ohio Library Snapshot Day 2012</a> is just around the corner!</span></b></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif";color:#002E62"> </span></b></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">Between <b>October 7 – 13, 2012</b>, all types of Ohio libraries are encouraged to pick one day to collect and share photographs, stories, and information to tell the story of libraries on a typical day.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">Last year was<b> </b><strong><span style="font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif";font-weight:normal">the first time in Ohio that public, school, academic, and special libraries joined together for Snapshot Day.</span></strong><b> </b><strong><span style="font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif";font-weight:normal">Between November 13 and 19, 2011 libraries across Ohio participated in the American Library Association's Snapshot Day initiative. <a href="http://library.ohio.gov/sites/default/files/SnapshotDay2011-ResultsWeb.pdf" target="_blank">233 Ohio Libraries</a> participated by either completing the survey or uploading photos to Flickr, or both.</span></strong></span><strong><span style="font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif""> </span></strong></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">The goal for 2012 is to increase participation by 50% for each of the type of libraries. We need your help to reach this goal. The Snapshot Day planning committee reviewed the 2011 process, results, feedback and suggestions, and incorporated them into the 2012 project. The <a href="http://library.ohio.gov/snapshotday/toolkit" target="_blank">toolkit</a> with step-by-step  instructions and tips has been updated to make it easy for libraries to participate.  The State Library of Ohio will use the pictures and stories collected during Snapshot Day to create a statewide snapshot of what happens on libraries each day in Ohio.  Libraries are encouraged to use their pictures and stories for their own advocacy and promotion efforts.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto"><b><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">Top 5 reasons to participate in Library Snapshot Day 2012:</span></b><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif""></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;margin-left:.25in"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">5.   Gives your library a chance to collect anecdotal evidence that shows how libraries are a transformational force in people’s lives.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;margin-left:.25in"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">4.   Sharing stories from library users creates a powerful message, raises awareness, and shows community leaders, legislators, and the public how you benefit the community.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;margin-left:.25in"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">3.   Increases staff morale by showing that the library does positively impact community members and that the work they do matters.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;margin-left:.25in"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">2.   Highlights the importance of the library as an valuable community center that provides equal access to resources vital for thriving in today’s digital world.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;text-indent:.25in"><i><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">And the biggest reason to participate in Library Snapshot Day 2012:</span></i><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif""></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;margin-left:.25in"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">1.   Gives you a reason to contact your elected officials to visit your library a
