<p><strong>When a student visits your LibGuides page, how quickly can
they find what they’re looking for?</strong> The best way to find out is
to watch them work. Give them a task like, “Find an article about
separation anxiety in children.” </p>
<p>You’ve given them the search, but since you didn’t tell them to
look in a database, will they know that’s where they should look? And if
they know they should look in a database, can they find that link?</p>
<p><strong>Welcome to the student brain, which in this regard is just
like yours.</strong> Head to the website of an unfamiliar library and
you too would be hunting for the place to run a database search. Only
you’re at an advantage: you know the lingo libraries use. </p>
<p>You don’t need a big neon sign pointing to database links, since
you know very well where they are. But if that’s the primary reason
students visit your main LibGuides page, links or directions to the
databases should probably be the most prominent links on the page.</p>
