Students entering grades 9-12, along with staff, parents and community members, read the same nonfiction book and engaged in a community picnic and a presentation from a local speaker. Students then participated in an inter-grade level school-wide discussion of the book and collaborated on class photo journals representing the themes of the book.</p>
