The Board of Trustees seek a dynamic and experienced professional ready to lead a thriving, well established, award-winning public library that is a vital contributor to Mt. Lebanon community life. Working with the Board, staff, and a strong corps of volunteers, the next director will continue to honor and build on the Library’s <a href="http://www.mtlebanonlibrary.org/DocumentCenter/View/90">Principles for Excellence</a> including continuing its thriving relationships with municipal and county agencies as well as its ongoing efforts to create a shared community vision of excellent library services. Governed by a seven-member Board, the Library serves the 33,000 Mt. Lebanon residents with a dedicated staff of 22.4FTE and a $1.7 million annual operating budget from a single 29,000 sq. ft. library (renovated and expanded in 1997) in the heart of Mt. Lebanon. Significant financial and volunteer support come from the Friends of the Library with their “Book Cellar,” an on-going fundraiser, and thousands of volunteer hours annually. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify'><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify'>A Community with Character—Mt. Responsibilities include carrying out the mission of the library; providing leadership for the overall effective and efficient operation of the library; and providing leadership in the library, community, and the library profession. The successful Director will have extensive knowledge of public library philosophy, principles, and practices; issues and trends; technology; collections; staffing; services to various groups; and facilities. Strong oral and written skills, the ability to exercise independent judgment, take initiative, think analytically, and the ability to plan, budget, and implement public library services are essential traits. Additional qualities include the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public and proficiency with computers, online information resources, cataloging and circulation systems.
