is with great sadness that we say goodbye to former Deputy State Librarian Roger Verny. Roger passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 4<sup>th</sup>. He retired from the State Library in January 2000 after 15 years of dedicated service to the State Library
of Ohio and the Ohio library community. He is remembered fondly for his kind nature, open door approach to everyone, and radiate smile when he talked about his love of ice hockey. Roger touched so many lives in the library profession and his legacy will live
on through their work.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span>After retiring from the State Library, Roger and his wife Carol moved to
</span><span style="font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif";mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"">Newburyport, MA when she became the</span><span style="font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif""> Director of the Haverhill Public Library. Carol is also
a beloved member of our community having worked almost 30 years in central Ohio libraries and library organizations.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif""><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">As Deputy State Librarian Roger oversaw many projects at the State Library of Ohio during his tenure, such as managing LSTA funds for new and innovative programming throughout Ohio’s
library community including the creation of a 24/7 virtual reference service and the automation of 1,556 school libraries. He also served on the Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board as well as a number of committees dealing with statewide initiatives. Prior
to joining the State Library, Roger served in a variety of senior administrative positions at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

<span style="color:#558ED5"><a href="http://www.tlcfuneralhome.com/"><span style="color:#558ED5">Twomey LeBlanc Conte Funeral Home</span></a></span> in Newburyport, MA. There will be a service at noon, followed by lunch at a local restaurant. An obituary is
