<p>We here at SWON are often asked what “kind” of employees our trainings, and more specifically, our special all-day events, are meant for. There were times where that answer may have been, “This event is only for support staff” such as when our <a href="http://swonlibraries.org/link.asp?e=cassondra@swonlibraries.org&job=2593091&ymlink=40833134&finalurl=http%3A%2F%2Fswonlibraries%2Eorg%2Fevents%2FEventDetails%2Easpx%3Fid%3D838757%26group%3D" target="_blank">staff training event</a> was known as the “Support Staff Symposium” or perhaps we might have geared our upcoming <a href="http://swonlibraries.org/link.asp?e=cassondra@swonlibraries.org&job=2593091&ymlink=40833134&finalurl=https%3A%2F%2Fswonlibraries%2Esite%2Dym%2Ecom%2Fevents%2FEventDetails%2Easpx%3Fid%3D825147%26group%3D" target="_blank">summer reading workshop</a> toward librarians only.</p>
<p>However, the reality of the work that you do does not reflect these sorts of divisions: It takes all of us, working hand-in-hand, and having the same understanding of goals and vision to create the libraries we want our patrons to have. </p>
<p>Associates and other support staff need training, and they are welcome to our <a href="http://swonlibraries.org/link.asp?e=cassondra@swonlibraries.org&job=2593091&ymlink=40833134&finalurl=http%3A%2F%2Fswonlibraries%2Eorg%2Fevents%2FEventDetails%2Easpx%3Fid%3D838757%26group%3D" target="_blank">Staff Training Symposium</a> as always, along with librarians, their supervisors and managers. Everyone can benefit from learning a little something new and everyone can better share visions if everyone knows what those visions look like.</p>
<p>The same goes for our upcoming <a href="http://swonlibraries.org/link.asp?e=cassondra@swonlibraries.org&job=2593091&ymlink=40833134&finalurl=https%3A%2F%2Fswonlibraries%2Esite%2Dym%2Ecom%2Fevents%2FEventDetails%2Easpx%3Fid%3D825147%26group%3D" target="_blank">Summer Reading Programming Workshop</a>. Certainly, department heads, planning committees and librarians can and do enjoy this event, but staff of all types put on programs at your libraries and staff of all types are encouraged to come and learn fresh, new ideas for summer reading programming.</p>
<p>We know many of your managers and department leads are busy, as well. They may be going to the OLC Conference. They may simply have too much going on to attend, even though it looks like it would be a fun and informative event for them. This is another reason we don’t want to limit who can attend our sessions – someone else can attend and share with everyone what they learned!</p>
<p>So if your work involves Youth Services programming for the Summer Reading Program in any capacity, we encourage you to attend this fall’s <a href="http://swonlibraries.org/link.asp?e=cassondra@swonlibraries.org&job=2593091&ymlink=40833134&finalurl=https%3A%2F%2Fswonlibraries%2Esite%2Dym%2Ecom%2Fevents%2FEventDetails%2Easpx%3Fid%3D825147%26group%3D" target="_blank">Summer Reading Programming Workshop</a>. We don’t care what “kind” of employee you are, we just hope that our educational opportunities can help you all be one kind of employee – a good one.</p>
