Thanks to a grant from the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) awarded by the State Library of Ohio, a project to conserve a woolly mammoth tusk in the collection of the Hudson Library & Historical Society has been completed. The tusk once
belonged to renowned polar explorer and Hudson resident, Lincoln Ellsworth, who was known for his Arctic and Antarctic expeditions claiming over 350,000 square miles of Antarctic territory for the United States. Locally, the Hudson schools are known as the
“Explorers” in his honor. To commemorate the completion of the tusk conservation and the historical legacy of Ellsworth and polar exploration, the library has planned a series of educational events. Immediately following the Dr. Brian Redmond program on May
16, a dedication ceremony will take place on the second floor of the library where the mammoth tusk will be formally unveiled.</p>
