<p>You are probably familiar with the idea of "escape rooms" - in the last five years, escape room businessess have <a href="https://458rl1jp.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fswonlibraries.org%2Flink.asp%3Fe=oplinlist@lists.oplin.org%26job=3805477%26ymlink=423617767%26finalurl=http%253A%252F%252Fwww%252Eusatoday%252Ecom%252Fstory%252Flife%252Fpeople%252F2018%252F04%252F25%252Fescape%252Drooms%252Dtrend%252Dus%252F468181002%252F/1/0100016bd25129fa-26a185e9-7550-4c64-ae70-c75a0ccdab4c-000000/qaM3R5G4gUHGodg3YuxhYnbd0EY=117">exploded onto the entertainment scene</a>. According to the <a href="https://458rl1jp.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fswonlibraries.org%2Flink.asp%3Fe=oplinlist@lists.oplin.org%26job=3805477%26ymlink=423617767%26finalurl=http%253A%252F%252Froomescapeartist%252Ecom%252F/1/0100016bd25129fa-26a185e9-7550-4c64-ae70-c75a0ccdab4c-000000/o3pv5A7ZeITjuKUCBndBMiPG45Y=117">Room Escape Artist blog</a> database, there were only 22 escape rooms in the U.S. in 2014. As of November 2018, however, there were at least 2300 escape room businesses operating in the US! These businesses charge a fee to play their game (ranging from $30-$60 depending on the place) and the timed challenge usually lasts one to two hours. Like many entertainment trends, not everyone can afford to have an escape room experience, though, which is why libraries around the country are creating their own DIY escape room programming for people of all ages. Escape rooms don't have to be solely for entertainment, either, of course! According to <a href="https://458rl1jp.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fswonlibraries.org%2Flink.asp%3Fe=oplinlist@lists.oplin.org%26job=3805477%26ymlink=423617767%26finalurl=http%253A%252F%252Fwww%252Eslj%252Ecom%252F%253FdetailStory%253Dall%252Dabout%252Descape%252Drooms/1/0100016bd25129fa-26a185e9-7550-4c64-ae70-c75a0ccdab4c-000000/vvGbmbVluuwA7iXxqU_HPczaRY0=117">School Library Journal</a>, this type of activity allows teachers and librarians to teach using play and to foster problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills in their students/patrons. Escape rooms create an opportunity to experiment, fail, and try again in a low-stakes environment.</p>

Whether it's to entertain, teach, or both, Breakout EDU can also help you create your own escape room experience. The kits come with everything you need to create a fun and exciting escape room experience - including content. Breakout provides an online platform filled with tons of lesson plans and ideas, as well as resources on <a href="https://458rl1jp.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fswonlibraries.org%2Flink.asp%3Fe=oplinlist@lists.oplin.org%26job=3805477%26ymlink=423617767%26finalurl=http%253A%252F%252Fwww%252Ebreakoutedu%252Ecom%252Ffacilitation/1/0100016bd25129fa-26a185e9-7550-4c64-ae70-c75a0ccdab4c-000000/bYbhoKzBFqqx4EV3VyWd4I_PIbA=117">how to facilitate</a> a Breakout EDU game.
