<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif"><img border="0" width="100" id="_x0000_i1027" src="https://neo-rls.org/photos/77535_07122021102302.jpg">I read the news last week and noted the disheartening information about
 the increase in car accidents due to reckless driving, the high increases in the number of opioid-related deaths, the climbing percentages around suicide in the U.S., the uptick in violent crimes and hate crimes – all on top of, and intermingled with, the
 continuing distress of Covid.  Taken all together it’s hard not to feel as though our society is falling into complete disarray and that we have developed a social climate that promotes anti-social behavior rather than pro-social behavior.   It was such a
 relief then to pick up the January 2022 issue of <em><span style="font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">LJ: Library Journal</span></em> and read the cover article,
<a href="https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=56124917&nr=6003723561">“Collective Support,”
</a>by Lisa Peet.  The quote highlighted reads “<strong><span style="font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">All library staff
</span></strong>are named 2022 Librarian of the Year winners for taking care of themselves, patrons, and one another through tough times.”  And so, in the words of William Shakespeare (and from the mouth of Gene Wilder in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory),
 “So shines a good deed in a weary world.”  The article is filled with amazing services both big and small that libraries across the country have performed over the course of the past year.  Reading it not only gave me a much needed shift in perspective but
 humbled me and made me inordinately proud of the profession to which I belong.  I cannot stress what an honor it is to be able to be a small part of what the libraries in the northeast Ohio region are doing to take care of each other and their communities. 
 Despite staffing shortages, illnesses, patron aggressions, and small budgets, we have seen continuing creativity, innovation, flexibility, and commitment, all combined with energy and a willingness to learn and change.  Kudos to you all!  And, thank you to
 you all!  <em><span style="font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">Together we are maximizing library potential.</span></em>  Have a great week! <br>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">CHANGES TO NEO-RLS BYLAWS POSTED TO WEBSITE FOR MEMBER REVIEW</span></strong><span style="font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">

The NEO-RLS Board of Trustees has proposed several changes to the Bylaws including changes in our Mission and Values and in the composition of the Board.  The proposed Board composition change creates 5 Public Library Zones rather than the current 4 in order
 to better include representation of all sizes of public libraries on the Board of Trustees.  One At-Large seat will be converted to a Zone 1 seat.  If approved, the Board will be comprised of 1 representative from Zone 1, two each from Zones 2-5, 1 At-Large
 representative, 2 Academic Library representatives, 1 School Library representative, 1 Special Library representative and 1 Geographic Member Library representative.  The proposed changes to the
<a href="https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=56221455&nr=6003723561" target="_blank">
Bylaws </a>will be posted to the website from January 19 – February 21, 2022 for member review.  Please send any comments or questions to
