Will you be using a Windows domain (NT 4 or Active Directory), or a
workgroup model for your XP computers? If you're using Active Directory
(with Windows 200 or 2003 servers), or operating them in a workgroup, then
you should have an easier time getting them to run on the network properly
without much extra configuration locally.

If, however, you're using a Windows NT 4 domain, there are extra steps you
need to take on each machine to make them communicate properly with the
domain. If this is the case, I can tell you what we've done to run our XP
machines on an NT 4 domain.

Subject: [OPLINTECH] Windows XP newbie

Our library recently purchased some new computers and began the upgrade
path to Windows XP Professional. The little I've worked with it so far
makes me cringe with anticipation. Does anyone have any tutorials or
helpful hints on XP for the new administrator setting up machines for
staff users that they would be willing to share?

Many thanks.
