[OPLINTECH] Old Server Available

If you want to recycle/donate it, there is an organization in Columbus
called FreeGeek Columbus http://freegeekcolumbus.org/ They take donated
computer equipment and reuse what they can. What they don't reuse they
recycle so obsolete computer equipment don't end up in a landfill.
Computers get distributed 2 ways, the first way is by volunteering,
volunteers can earn a free computer for volunteering a certain number of
hours, this is helpful for people who need a computer but can not afford
one.
The second way is through a hardware grant which nonprofit organizations
can apply for to get computers at no cost.
Being a server, I would think it may end up being redistributed via a
hardware grant.

Another option would be to try to re-purpose it. You could look into
loading a free operating system on it and set it up as a lamp box
(linux, apache, mysql and php). This configuration would be able to run
web based apps like a cms for a staff intranet, or libstats
( http://code.google.com/p/libstats/ ) to keep track of reference
questions. Of course with free virtualization software this approach may
be overkill if you have a beefier box that can handle virtual machines.

If your interested in donating it to FreeGeek Columbus, let me know and
I can e-mail your contact information to their list and have someone
contact you to work out the logistics of getting it there.
