[OPLINTECH] Downloading Stations

I'm not familiar with Rhapsody, but I would venture to say what you want to
do is almost impossible with iTunes because of how it handles licensing and
attached devices. I built a new computer for home last year, and when I
moved my music files over to the new machine, iTunes gave me the message
that I could only move my purchased music files to a new computer four more
times before I lost access to them. (I was so angry I furrowed my eye brows)

I know there are ways around this limitation, but we couldn't legally do
them as a library.

Also, If you use something other than iTunes for your patrons, you will have
to give them the benefit of the doubt that they would know how iTunes works
at their home computer- At home, the default action iTunes takes with my
iPod is to sync up with iTunes and it would probably delete the
library-downloaded content almost as soon as I plugged in. The options can
be changed, but I'm not sure how tricky the process would be for the
everyday patron.

I'm such a Negative Nancy!

PS- We have an OverDrive Download Station here- it's a very slick set up,
but it's not used nearly as much as we'd like. We're working on increasing
the attention it gets, but it feels a bit like the old saying about leading
a horse to water.

Subject: [OPLINTECH] Downloading Stations

Hello All,

I am looking into having download stations for music, games, etc. So far, we
will have one that will allow patrons to download from Overdrive but I am
wondering if anyone has implemented a download station with other websites
like iTunes or Rhapsody? If so, what security measures have you implemented?
Do you employ a reservation system with this station or is it standalone?
Any information is appreciated.

Thank you,
