[OPLINTECH] Vista roaming profiles

To all those that tried to help....Thank you.

Solution:

. rename profiles something other than user.v2.

. remove user from group policy

. run gpupdate on server

. log on as user (last pc that was successfully logged on is best)

. log off

. re-add user to group policy

. run gpupdate

. add profile path to user

. log on from same pc as above

This is not a perfect solution but, in our case it works. There may be a few
tweaks that the user may need to do depending on the number of changes to
the profile since the pc was last logged on (changes since the cached copy
of the users profile was loaded on the pc). As we have a different home
directory (documents folder) than the profiles folder, only the user
interface information is there & I can still pull the favorites or bookmarks
from the old profiles & import them into the new profile.

Thanks again,

Dan

P.S. Thank God I don't have 100 users! J

Subject: [OPLINTECH] Vista roaming profiles

Hi all,

I've got a problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with. During the
last week of December I had a Win2k3 RC2 primary domain controller fail
(hardware). Because I could not "gracefully" demote it, I seized all of the
domain functions to the backup and built a replacement BDC. That was a real
headache but, got through it. I now have another problem. I had roaming
profiles setup for our staff, so they could get their e-mail, bookmarks,
etc. I am having an "access denied" error now when a user logs on as
themselves. I understand from the KB articles that the profiles folder on
the server share (\\server\profiles <file:///\\server\profiles> ) requires
creator owner to have full control on subfolder and files only and the
user's group to have list folder /read data, create folders /append data
this folder only. The actual users profile folder (user.v2) has system full
control & %username% full control & owner of folder. The administrator has
NO permissions. Here in lies my problem. How do I copy their profile data to
a folder that can have no access permissions for the administrator. I have
created the profiles folder and copied all of the data to it then tried
resetting all of the permissions as directed. I STILL get the access denied
error when logging on as the user.

If there is a Do "this" then Do "this" then Do "that" type of document on
the web about fixing this problem, I haven't found it. Has anyone had any
experience with this or a resource I can go to that describes the procedure
to fix it?

TIA
