[OPLINTECH] social intranet software

Greetings Kevin,

We are using SharePoint Services 2007, and it has been really nice. I can't even imagine comparing it to the version you are running. It is certainly not the only option, but you will most likely really appreciate the level they have taken it to in 2007. I have not looked closely at 2010 yet. Since it is free with a server license, and you could potentially get a cheap MS Sever license from TechSoup, it could be competitive with other products. You could also build it out on MS SQL Server, which can also be licensed through TechSoup. We also have libraries using Drupal and WordPress for their internal communication and sharing, and then we use SharePoint for inter-library communication within our consortium. We have used Drupal here and there in the past for various inter-library tasks also, and we are looking at Drupal for Internet development, along with Microsoft's Expression Studio. We most likely will remain a mixed Microsoft & Linux web shop. Hope that is helpful, and good luck with your planning. PD

We have been using Windows SharePoint Services here at Coshocton Public Library for about 7 years. I believe it is version 1 and it is the free version. The server it is installed on is about 10 years old, and I will be replacing it this year. Even though we have had a good experience with WSS, I am open to something different.

Are any of you using Intranet software at your libraries? Are there any other feature rich, stable, and staff friendly software options available that you can recommend?
