[OPLINTECH] Deep Freeze & updates

I’m in the process of installing it on all of our patron boxes (as all of our branches are not open on the same days anymore, it takes a few day). What I’ve seen so far….not much change. Most of the updates must be under the surface. I do like the console a lot though.

Following up on Dan, it looks like the newest version of DF Enterprise is out now. It supposedly has better support for MS updates and might be worth checking out if you keep up on your maintenance agreement.

FWIW, I've not tried it yet myself, but am interested in reviewing it.

In general, however, on DF protected workstations, I tend to disable most/all of the various auto-updaters. For security reasons, it's nice that a lot of programs are auto-updating these days. However, when you have 10 different programs doing 10 different sets of updates in 10 different ways, it gets very messy very quickly, especially on frozen workstations. It can also have a negative impact on your Internet bandwidth if you don't manage to get an update done during a scheduled thaw window. If an update is available, then every time you reboot your frozen computer, it will potentially re-download the update and re-install it (times the number of frozen computers you have).

Hello techies,

We are running Deep Freeze 6 and one of the problems I am having is AVG, Java, Microsoft and Adobe what to run updates with a reboot in the middle of the day when the machines are frozen. I have the machines reboot thawed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for several hours specifically for these updates. Some of the updates need feed back. I don't want the extra bells and whistles (toolbars). Any suggestions would be appreciated and URLS. I don't know how to make batch files, but would love the knowledge.

We have 5 public computers and a server.

Thanks,
