[OPLINTECH] WOT ~ Web Of Trust

WOT is a great tool, I have been using it at home for years. I will say its
more accurate then SiteAdvisor and the like.

I have not installed it here at the library though for one reason. When
reading their software EULA/Terms of Service, the following clause stands
out to me:

        GRANT OF LICENSE

WOT hereby grants to you and you fully accept, upon delivery, a personal,
limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the Services for
your own personal, non-commercial use. This license enters into force
through aforementioned procedure and no title shall pass to you. In addition
to the license granted in this section, you shall have the right to access
the Services in accordance with the Terms. The license does not allow you to
use WOT name, WOT trademarks or other commercial symbols. All rights and
licenses not expressly granted to you under this agreement shall be retained
by WOT.

You shall also have a personal, limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable
right to use the Software for your own personal, non-commercial use in
connection with your use of the Services. In case you wish to use the
Software and/or web service API as a part of your own application or to
redistribute and modify the Software, separate terms and conditions apply.

Any commercial or enterprise use of the Service and/or Software requires a
separate agreement with WOT.

Now the WOT license appears to me that it can only be used for personal
non-commercial use. The license seems similar to Avast Free which means you
can pretty much only use it at home, and if you want to use it at work you
have to buy the premium edition. I wrote an email to WOT last fall asking
this very question about use(because I wanted to use it here) and I didn't
receive any response from them. I would like to use WOT here, but I don't
want to be violating any software license, EULA, or anything like that.

Has anyone else contacted WOT inquiring about using the free version in
libraries? If so what response did you guys/gals receive?

Terrific tip - thanks, Bob and Chad. This sounds like a terrific tool for
helping staff and patrons browse "smarter."

Chad (Level9 Networks) showed this to me.
Added it to my Opera and seems to work without any noticeable slowdowns.
It's been around for awhile so you may know of it.

Web Of Trust at http://www.mywot.com/

It has browser extensions to help identify suspicious sites.
It is advisory only, sites are not blocked.

When using Google, there is a small colored circle to the right of a site.
Green is good, etc. Hovering the mouse over it will show symbols and
information.
Symbol list shown at: http://www.mywot.com/en/support/symbols

Any site marked RED will show a WARNING popup when accessed, even by going
directly to it.
The warning has a click box to continue on.

WOT will probably be added to all (staff & patron) PC's.

Downloads available for Firefox, Google, Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari,
Opera and Bookmarklet for others.
