[OPLINTECH] Summer Reading Program Online

FWIW, I thought of this email thread while reading about The Great Reading Adventure (http://greatreadingadventure.com), an free and open source software program designed to manage summer reading programs, which was funded through an LSTA grant in Arizona. According to the FAQ on the site “The Great Reading Adventure requires a configured web server running SQL Server 2008 or 2012. It is recommended that your server have at least 2 CPUs, 8 GB of RAM, and 500 MB dedicated storage. The software is distributed in a packaged installation file, which will guide you through the installation process.”
It also includes badges and games. Overall, it looks pretty cool but I don’t have any hands-on experience to share. That being said I’m willing to reach out to my colleagues at Arizona State Library if anyone has specific implementation questions.

Don and all watching this list,

I contacted the man in charge of the ReadingRecord project and said that I am interested in hosting our own solution. I would have to talk to our director about us hosting a solution for our state using this method once we get our OPLIN circuit upgraded this month. I agree with Don that this would be a great service for OPLIN to host for all of Ohio's Libraries.
If anyone wants to look into ReadingRecord check out the demo site: https://www.readingrecord.net/dokuwiki/doku.php/info:demo_site_info

Thank you for all of the responses.

I go poking around to see what progress has been made on this
project -- https://www.readingrecord.net.

In previous years, it was confined to Colorado. Looks like they've
finally released the code. I'd love to see a hosted solution available
to Ohio's public libraries. Perhaps some sort of Information Network
for Ohio's Public Libraries* might be interested in taking that on?

* What would we even call such a network? INOPL? PLOIN? PLINO?

Hello OplinTech,

I want to host our own Summer Reading Program Signup and Log next year. I'm looking for a free download that I can host on a server here and make a public link available for signup and logging.

I heard of a thing called bookworm, what is that?

Thanks,
Eric Lochtefeld
