[OPLINTECH] Way off subject but may be of interest to a general type tech

At some point you may want to replace the pull chain switch in an overhead fan.
You would think it a simple matter to buy the right switch.
Hah ! Good luck with that.

Depending on the fan unit, the switch may be a simple one with each click
advancing to a single output.
Or some combination of 2 or more simultaneous outputs.
Our fan is: 4 wires to pins L, 1, 2, 3
Switch function is Off=L-nothing; High=L-1; Medium=L-2&3; Low=L-3
High speed bypasses the Capacitors, Medium puts 2 caps in parallel, Low uses
just 1 cap
Fairly straight forward in the world of electronics.

By the way, just taking the part number from the old switch may not work
This one just says KTE3089 but doesn't tell the circuit type, which is "M".
Look at http://www.kte.com.hk/product_speed_control_pull_chain_switch_3_speed.htm
On the left side there are 5 different circuits for the low temp versions.
Probably only one will work for your fan.

Your manual and the fan website generally may be useless
Your favorite Home Depot, Lowe's, ACE, Do-It-Best, etc. Tech ?? Person usually
won't have a clue.

Figure out your circuit, take a VOM to check the switch at the store, as the
switch package usually won't help
But they probably won't have the correct part anyway, unless it is very straight
forward switch.

Here is a site that might help.
https://www.kenselectronics.com/lists/switches.htm

The switch I need is ZE-268S6

One more thing, you may need to cut and tin the wires to insert them in the new
switch.

And it should not need mentioning, but, open the circuit breaker to turn
off power before doing anything.
